Celtics’ Hayward suffers ankle sprain in workout

NBA

Boston Celtics forward Gordon Hayward sprained his ankle during a workout Tuesday, coach Brad Stevens said, and is listed as questionable for Thursday’s game against the Milwaukee Bucks.

Stevens, speaking Wednesday on 98.5 The Sports Hub, said the injury was “not a long-term thing.”

Stevens said the injury was to Hayward’s right ankle, not the left ankle, which was surgically repaired in October 2017 following a devastating injury in Hayward’s first game with Celtics.

“We anticipate that he’ll be back within a short amount of time,” Stevens said.

Stevens said Hayward sustained the injury going one-on-one against teammate Semi Ojeleye while they were working out over the All-Star break at the Auerbach Center.

“Hopefully, he’ll be available, but I don’t know that for sure,” Stevens said.
