Agent says Cyborg interested in new UFC deal

Cris Cyborg, one of the most dominant female fighters in MMA history, has one fight left on her deal with the UFC. Some have questioned whether the Brazilian will return to the organization, as she has voiced displeasure of their lack of promotion of her in the past. The future of the featherweight division is also uncertain at this time.

But according to her agent Audie Attar, Cyborg is interested in a new deal and hopes to fight in her hometown of Curitiba, Brazil in May at UFC 237.

“The hopes are we can get a new deal done with the UFC, but time will tell on whether that is achievable or not,” Attar told ESPN’s Ariel Helwani on his podcast. “We haven’t received any official fight offer but she would love to fight in her hometown. We’ve had some soft discussions about her next fight and her future. She’d love to fight for the UFC.

“Cris Cyborg is one of the biggest draws in MMA. And that is fact. Even in that last fight, she went in there and didn’t fight her fight and got caught, but it was still exciting to watch.”

Cyborg lost the UFC’s featherweight belt in December after being knocked out in the first round by UFC bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes.

Attar, who on Monday’s show announced he was joining the board of Legend Fighting Championship based in Hong Kong, also provided an update on client Conor McGregor. The former UFC lightweight and featherweight champion is serving the remainder of his six-month suspension for his participation in a brawl with Khabib Nurmagomedov’s team after UFC 226.

He can return in April at the earliest. McGregor has shown interest in fighting Donald Cerrone, Max Holloway and Anderson Silva.

“There’s little talks happening right now but nothing imminent,” Attar said. “He loves the sport. He lives for it. Ultimately we’ll see where Conor decides.”
