Huw Jones is likely to miss the remainder of Scotland’s Six Nations campaign, the Scottish Rugby Union has confirmed.
The Glasgow Warriors centre sustained knee ligament damage in Scotland’s second-round defeat to Ireland at Murrayfield on Saturday, and scan results suggest that Jones’ recovery time will likely extend beyond the end of this year’s tournament.
“As such, Jones has returned to the care of his club’s medical team,” read a statement released by the SRU.
Jones is set to miss the matches against Wales, England and France.
Meanwhile, it is still unclear whether or not full-back Stuart Hogg will be able to return to the Scotland team before the tournament’s conclusion.
Hogg damaged shoulder ligaments after a heavy tackle from Peter O’ Mahoney in the Ireland defeat and is being monitored by club Glasgow Warriors and the Scotland medical teams.
According to the SRU “his rehabilitation progress and review are ongoing”.
Head coach Gregor Townsend had said he was hopeful that Hogg could come back despite reports the full-back would miss the tournament and could even be a doubt for the World Cup in Japan next autumn.
“I’m very hopeful that he’ll get good news and that he’ll be available to play some part in the Six Nations,” Townsend said.
