Celtics’ Irving (knee) to miss 2nd straight game

NBA

Boston Celtics star Kyrie Irving will miss his second straight game Wednesday against the Detroit Pistons because of a sprained right knee.

Irving suffered the injury this past weekend against the Clippers and has been listed as day to day. The All-Star point guard missed Tuesday’s game against the 76ers, but Boston held on for a 112-109 victory.

The Celtics are 8-2 in games that Irving has missed this season, while going 28-19 in games that he has played. Boston could be severely short-handed at point guard against Detroit, as backup Terry Rozier has been listed as doubtful because of an illness.

Irving is averaging 23.6 points, 6.9 assists and 4.9 rebounds this season for the Celtics (36-21), who are tied with the Sixers for fourth place in the Eastern Conference.
