The Detroit Pistons have agreed to trade Stanley Johnson to the Milwaukee Bucks in exchange for center Thon Maker, a league source told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski on Wednesday.
The trade is an ideal change of scenery for two young former lottery picks. Johnson can work to find a role on a contending team, and Maker will get an opportunity for playing time with Dwane Casey.
Sources told ESPN that Maker, 21, had told Bucks management in January that he would prefer to be traded to a team that would provide a larger role for 10th overall pick in the 2016 NBA draft.
The 7-foot-1 Maker, who is averaging 4.7 points and 2.7 rebounds while averaging 11.7 minutes in 35 games for the Bucks this season, is eligible to negotiate a rookie contract extension this offseason.
The 22-year-old Johnson, the eighth overall pick in the 2015 draft, is averaging 7.5 points and 3.6 rebounds while averaging 20.0 minutes in 48 games this season..
