Paris Saint-Germain set to abandon bid to sign Everton’s Gueye – sources

Julien Laurens predicts how Thomas Tuchel will set up his starting XI against Manchester United, with star-player Neymar sidelined for 10 weeks.
Craig Burley says Neymar is at least partially responsible for his latest injury by the way he goaded his fellow Ligue 1 players throughout the season.

Paris Saint-Germain are ready to end their attempts to sign midfielder Idrissa Gueye after Everton boss Marco Silva blocked the move, a source has told ESPN FC.

PSG have been chasing Senegal international Gueye and saw an offer rejected, prompting him to submit a transfer request, but will now turn their attention to Lille’s Thiago Mendes.

The source said Silva had not given his approval for Gueye to be sold, and PSG believe he has threatened to resign if the player departs against his wishes.

Silva said Gueye was not in the right frame of mind to play in Everton’s recent 1-0 win at Huddersfield, and the source said the 29-year-old was now in Paris and keen to complete a move.

The source added that PSG were now moving to their backup option of Mendes — who was being lined up by Everton to replace Gueye — to boost coach Thomas Tuchel’s midfield.

Lille have previously said Mendes — also reported to have attracted interest from the Chinese Super League — can leave if a good offer arrives, and coach Christophe Galtier revealed this week that a replacement had been lined up if he does so.
