Harry Kane will be sidelined for two months after scans confirmed ankle ligament damage, and the Tottenham striker looks set to miss both legs of the Champions League last-16 showdown with Borussia Dortmund.
The 25-year-old was injured by a tackle from Phil Jones at the end of Sunday’s 1-0 home defeat to Manchester United and limped off gingerly.
Kane had to wait until Tuesday for a scan as the swelling went down on his ankle, but Spurs’ fears have now been confirmed.
A club statement read: “Following preliminary assessments, we can confirm that Harry Kane has damaged ligaments in his left ankle, sustained during Sunday’s match.
“He will continue to be monitored by our medical staff as he commences rehabilitation and is expected to return to training in early March.”
Kane will miss the second leg of the Carabao Cup semifinal against Chelsea, as Spurs travel to Stamford Bridge next Thursday with a 1-0 aggregate lead.
He also looks likely to miss both legs of the north Londoners’ Champions League duel with Dortmund, given the second leg in Germany takes place on March 5.
Meanwhile, Tottenham have six Premier League fixtures scheduled before the start of March as they bid to keep their place in the top four, including another trip to Chelsea on Feb. 27, while the north London derby against Arsenal at Wembley comes at the very start of March.
With Son Heung-Min now away at the Asian Cup, and the final of that competition taking place on Feb. 1, the injury has come at a bad time for Spurs.
Indeed, manager Mauricio Pochettino admitted on Sunday that it would be a “massive” blow to be without both players.
