Champions Cup round-up: Saracens progress

Rugby

Saracens progressed to the Champions Cup quarterfinals with a convincing 28-10 victory over Lyon in pool three.

Nick Tompkins crossed the line twice for the two-time winners who stay top and remain unbeaten in the competition this season.

England international Maro Itoje — who returned from a knee injury picked up in December — was sent to the sin bin on 51 minutes for foul play.

In the same pool, Glasgow Warriors took a step closer to the next round with a 33-24 bonus point victory against Cardiff Blues at the Scotstoun Stadium.

Glasgow ran in five tries and they will face Saracens next week to see which team will finish in top spot.

Exeter Chiefs moved closer to a place in the quarterfinals with a stunning 34-12 win over Castres in pool two.

Exeter scored six tries against the French champions — who had Tudor Stroe sent off in the second half — and now the English side must defeat Munster to stand of chance of qualifying to the next stage.
