Derrick Rose sprained his right ankle during the Minnesota Timberwolves‘ 123-120 overtime loss to the Atlanta Hawks on Friday night, the team said.
He will be re-evaluated by medical staff Saturday.
Rose, who played 39 minutes, suffered the injury on an attempted jump shot during the last play of regulation.
Rose, who started for injured guard Jeff Teague, finished with 25 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists. Rose has been an integral part of the Timberwolves’ offense this year. He is averaging 18.7 points, 2.8 rebounds and 5.7 assists per game.
In past seasons, Rose has struggled to stay healthy, undergoing three knee surgeries during his career. Last season, as a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers, he spent time away from the team to re-evaluate whether he wanted to continue playing in the NBA after a sprained left ankle caused him to miss seven games.
Rose also missed one game earlier this season due to left ankle soreness.
