Ashwin and Rohit ruled out of second Test

Rohit Sharma and R Ashwin have been ruled out of the second Test against Australia in Perth with back and side injuries respectively.

Rohit jarred his lower back while fielding in Adelaide and Ashwin suffered a left-sided abdominal strain. Rohit made 37 and 1 in the first Test while Ashwin bowled more than 50 overs in the second innings as India clinched a 31-run victory.

A BCCI statement said Prithvi Shaw was “recovering well” from the ankle injury he sustained in the warm-up match against a Cricket Australia XI Sydney but was not yet available for selection.

India have named a 13-man squad for the Test which starts on Friday at the new Perth Stadium.
