Good dog! Pooch proves goalkeeper’s best friend in Argentina

Football

Jordan Pickford may be dogged for a while by his howler that led to Liverpool’s late winner against Everton, but he might’ve avoided getting hit by the papers if he had a best friend like the one that turned up far away in South America on Sunday.

In a match between Argentine third-division sides, Juventud Unida de Gualeguaychu led 3-0 at home against Defensores de Belgrano de Villa Ramallo and looked set to extend their lead when the Belgrano goalkeeper’s clearance attempt banged off a Juventud player and headed right for the back of net. But — out for a walk, maybe? — this pooch came to the rescue and cleared the ball off the line.

It’s taken all we had to wait this long to call the dog Gianluigi Woof-on, and now that we have, we feel shame.
