England 336 (Bairstow 110, Stokes 57, Sandakan 5-95) v Sri Lanka

Left-arm wristspinner Lakshan Sandakan completed a second five-wicket haul, as Sri Lanka needed only 28 deliveries to claim the three remaining England wickets on the second morning. Meanwhile the visitors added 22 to their overnight score, moving to 336 all out on an SSC track that is yet to take substantial turn.

Moeen Ali, who had overturned an lbw decision against him off what turned out to be the last delivery of the previous day, was immediately positive at the crease on the second morning, stepping down the track to greet the first ball, before hitting two boundaries off Suranga Lakmal in the next over. This belligerent approach would soon bring his downfall, however, when he ran at Dilruwan Perera and holed out to long off for 33.

The wickets of No. 10 Stuart Broad and No. 11 Jack Leach would come in the next 12 deliveries. Broad was bowled around his legs by a full delivery he really should have made contact with, to give Sandakan his five-for. Leach then advanced to Perera in the same fashion as Moeen, but could not clear Angelo Mathews at mid off, who sprinted back towards the boundary and took an excellent overhead catch.

Sandakan’s five wickets cost 95 runs for Sri Lanka. Perera had the next-best figures, with 3 for 113 – two of those wickets having come this morning.
