NEW ORLEANS — Pelicans point guard Elfrid Payton suffered a fractured left pinkie Friday night against the New York Knicks and has been ruled out for the rest of the game, the team announced.

Payton, who returned to the starting lineup Friday after missing nine games with a right ankle sprain, suffered the injury in the first quarter.

Acquired as a free agent this past offseason, Payton, 24, entered the day averaging 11.6 points and 6.4 assists in five games this season.

New Orleans also went 4-1 in games in which he played and 3-6 in games he missed.
