The picture is becoming clearer about who will take part in the UEFA Nations League finals next June, as well as which teams will be promoted and relegated.

This is what is still at stake over the first half of November’s fixtures.

Thursday, Nov. 15

League A – Group 2
Belgium vs. Iceland
Belgium cannot win the group on Thursday, but the result will be crucial to the outcome of the group. If Belgium win then they will top the group unless they lose to Switzerland on Sunday either 1-0 or by two goals, as head-to-head is the first tiebreaker. If Belgium draw or lose, they would have to avoid any defeat to the Swiss to finish first. It could yet be that the size of victory over Iceland is key, as a 2-1 loss to the Swiss would then see the group decided on goal difference; as it stands the Swiss are three goals better off. Iceland are already sure of finishing bottom.

League A – Group 4
Croatia vs. Spain
Spain will win the group with a victory. However, if they fail to win it opens the door for England to finish top by beating Croatia on Sunday. Croatia must win both games to top the group.

League B – Group 3
Austria vs. Bosnia and Herzegovina
Bosnia will guarantee qualification if they draw or win, or even if they lose by a one-goal margin of 2-1 or higher-scoring. Austria must beat Bosnia by two goals, or 1-0, to have a chance of topping the group.

League C – Group 2
Greece vs. Finland; Hungary vs. Estonia
Finland only need a point in Greece to secure promotion and a Euro 2020 playoff. However, if they lose by more than two goals then they could be overhauled on the final day. Hungary can avoid bottom spot, and will probably be safe from relegation, with a point at home to Estonia.

League D – Group 2
Luxembourg vs. Belarus; San Marino vs. Moldova
Luxembourg will be promoted with a win. If Luxembourg draw against Belarus, a win in Moldova on the final day would still secure first. Belarus know victory in Luxembourg should effectively win them the group, with a trip to San Marino on the final day.

Friday, Nov. 16

League A – Group 1
Netherlands vs. France
France will win the group if they avoid defeat. Netherlands must win both their remaining games to be sure of top spot, the second being away to Germany on Monday. However, if Netherlands beat France by two goals, or a one-goal margin of 1-0 or 2-1, a draw in Germany would see the Dutch win the group. If Netherlands beat France by a one-goal margin of 3-2 or higher-scoring, the Dutch must beat Germany to top the group.

League B – Group 1
Slovakia vs. Ukraine
Ukraine have already won the group, but the game is more important for Slovakia in their bid to avoid relegation. If Slovakia lose then it is likely they would need to beat the Czechs by two goals to avoid the drop to League C. Any other result and a win of any kind vs. the Czechs would keep them up.

League B – Group 4
Wales vs. Denmark
If there is a winner in this game, that nation will secure the group and promotion. If the game is a draw, top spot would be Denmark’s with victory over Republic of Ireland on Monday. Ireland will be relegated if Denmark avoid defeat.

League C – Group 3
Cyprus vs. Bulgaria, Slovenia vs. Norway
Norway (a-Slovenia, a-Cyprus) are top of the group ahead of Bulgaria (a-Cyprus, h-Slovenia) on goal difference, and they have played each other twice. It’s going to go to the wire.

League D – Group 4
Gibraltar vs. Armenia; Liechtenstein vs. Macedonia
Macedonia will be promoted if they win in Liechtenstein on Friday as long as Gibraltar draw with Armenia. If there is a winner between Gibraltar and Armenia, then the group is guaranteed to go down to the final day.

Saturday, Nov. 17

League A – Group 3
Italy vs. Portugal
Portugal need a draw to secure a place in the finals, which would also confirm them as hosts. Even if they lose in Milan, they will get a second chance and would be guaranteed to finish top if they win at home to Poland on Tuesday. Italy must win at home to Portugal and then hope Portugal lose at home Poland to be sure of qualifying. But if Italy beat Portugal by two goals, then Italy would top the group if Portugal draw or lose against Poland.

League B – Group 2
Turkey vs. Sweden
Turkey will definitely be relegated if they lose. Sweden must win both their remaining games to top the group ahead of Russia, who they host on Tuesday.

League C – Group 1
Albania vs. Scotland
If Scotland get at least a point they know victory at home to leaders Israel on Tuesday secures top spot. If Scotland lose, they can only then top the group on goal difference. Albania only have a slim chance of being promoted. They must beat Scotland by at least four goals and then hope Scotland beat Israel (by no more than three goals) to finish top on goal difference. If Albania fail to beat Scotland they will definitely finish bottom and in danger of being one of the worst-ranked third-placed teams for relegation.

League C – Group 4
Serbia vs. Montenegro; Romania vs. Lithuania
Serbia can eliminate Montenegro with a victory, and would secure the group if Romania fail to win. Lithuania will be relegated unless they win both of their games, and even then they would still need other results.

League D – Group 3
Azerbaijan vs. Faroe Islands; Malta vs. Kosovo
Victory for Kosovo will see them promoted if second-placed Azerbaijan do not win at home to Faroe Islands. Kosovo host Azerbaijan on the final day, and if both teams win on Saturday their first match it’s set up for a winner-takes-all showdown.
