76ers’ Simmons doubtful Tuesday due to back

NBA

Philadelphia 76ers point guard Ben Simmons is doubtful for Tuesday night’s game against the Detroit Pistons because of a back injury, coach Brett Brown said.

Simmons, who left Saturday night’s game against the Orlando Magic with a tight back, was absent from practice Monday. He missed shootaround Tuesday morning while receiving treatment for his back.

Simmons exited Saturday’s game against the Magic with 4:19 remaining in the first quarter and did not return.

“I thought he played OK, but it was clear that something was going on,” Brown said after the game. “Despite that, I thought he was OK on the floor, and I just took him out and was informed that he wouldn’t be coming back.”

Simmons, the reigning rookie of the year, missed only one game last season after sitting out all of 2016-17 with a broken foot.
