Kenya Premier League champions Gor Mahia have acquired the services of Uganda defender Shafik Batambuze on a two-year deal.

The left-back has been signed to fill the gap vacated by countryman Godfrey Walusimbi, who ditched the club for South African giants Kaizer Chiefs in August.

“Shafik Batambuze has today penned a two year contract with the reigning champions Gor Mahia FC in readiness for the forthcoming CAF Champions League and the 2019 Kenya Premier League,” Gor Mahia said in a statement posted on the club’s official website.

“The Ugandan full left back and former Singida United of Tanzania player will fill the gap left by Godfrey Walusimbi,” the statement concluded.

Batambuze is no newcomer in the Kenyan Premier League, having previously played for Sofapaka, Western and Tusker FC before departing for Tanzanian side Singida United in May 2017.

He becomes the club’s first signing ahead of 2018-2019 Kenyan Premier League campaign, which kicks off on Saturday 8 December.
