Back Spain against England, Alcacer to score and France to beat Germany

Football
Kasey Keller says if Joachim Low doesn’t make changes soon it might be him that gets changed, after Germany’s 3-0 loss to the Netherlands.
Steve Nicol suggests Marcus Rashford’s lack of game time at Manchester United is affecting his sharpness with England, despite creating chances.
Paco Alcácer scored twice in the opening half-hour and Sergio Ramos added a goal of his own as Spain defeated Wales 4-1.

We took down 11/2 and 3/1 winners last time out courtesy of Republic of Ireland drawing 0-0 with Denmark and Romelu Lukaku scoring first for Belgium against Switzerland. The international action continues with another busy round of fixtures, including England’s trip to Spain.

The Banker

Spain have won both of their UEFA Nations League matches and know victory against the Three Lions would book their place in the finals next June. Luis Enrique has enjoyed a terrific start to his tenure as boss of La Roja and Spain will surely fancy this, given that they’ve scored 10 goals in their last two international matches. They also claimed a 2-1 victory over England at Wembley as recently as last month, so 4/6 quotes about a home win in Seville look about right. England did OK last time out against Croatia and created enough chances to win the game comfortably only for profligacy in front of goal to cost them. Gareth Southgate’s men face a different challenge against the Spanish, who look to be getting back to something like their best.

Selection: £6 on Spain to beat England at 4/6 with bet365.

The Tasty Treble

Wales brushed past Republic of Ireland 4-1 when the teams met in Cardiff last month, but with the Welsh missing main man Gareth Bale, it could pay to back the draw at 19/10. The Irish are without a win in their last four competitive matches and looked seriously shot of attacking options during the 0-0 draw with Denmark. As stated Spain can be trusted at 4/6 to beat England while Bosnia (8/13) should be too strong for Northern Ireland on Monday evening. The Green and White Army may struggle to deal with the attacking threat posed by Bosnian striker Edin Dzeko, who will be hopeful of adding to his impressive tally of 53 international goals.

Selection: £3 on the treble at 6.8/1 with bet365.

The First-Goal Flutter

Paco Alcacer has hit nine goals in just five matches this season for club and country and looks a tempting shout at 4/1 to score first against England. The Borussia Dortmund striker marked his first appearance for the national side in two years by scoring twice against Wales on Thursday, and at times this season his performances have been on another planet. He may not be the fastest or most skilful, but he’s a pure goalscorer and 4/1 looks big.

Selection: £2 on Alcacer to score first at 4/1 with bet365.

The Euro wager

Germany were thrashed 3-0 by Netherlands on Saturday and could be in for a tough evening when they travel to France on Tuesday. The 2014 World Cup winners suffered a shock exit at the group stage in Russia and, overall, have lost five of their last nine internationals. Defensive disorganisation and low confidence means the pressure is firmly on Joachim Low; France on home soil should prove too strong.

Selection: £6 on France to beat Germany at 5/6.

The Wildcard Tip

Backing ‘No Goalscorer’ did the trick for us in Republic of Ireland’s last match against Denmark and another stalemate against the Welsh would not come as a huge shock. Wales just do not look the same side without talisman Bale up front, while Martin O’Neill’s Irish don’t have enough flair players in their ranks to unlock defences on a regular basis.

Selection: £1 on No Goalscorer at 11/2 with bet365.
