NHL says Voynov hasn’t been cleared to return

NEW YORK — The NHL says Slava Voynov still has not been cleared to play in the league.

NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly said Sunday that Voynov’s return is contingent on completing a process with the league to review his case that would determine the parameters for his eligibility.

A judge dismissed a misdemeanor domestic abuse conviction against the former Los Angeles Kings defenseman last month.

The judge granted Voynov’s request to dismiss his conviction over the objection of Los Angeles County prosecutors three years after he pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge of corporal injury to a spouse.

The Kings terminated Voynov’s $25 million contract in 2015, but with his conviction overturned he can request a hearing with commissioner Gary Bettman to apply for reinstatement.
