Another big fight is close to being added to UFC 229 on Oct. 6.
Tony Ferguson vs. Anthony Pettis is in the works for the card, multiple sources told ESPN, confirming an earlier report by MMAJunkie.com.
The lightweight fight, which is not yet signed, would take place on the main UFC 229 card headlined by the Khabib Nurmagomedov–Conor McGregor lightweight title fight. The event, which will take place at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, is expected to be one of the highest grossing in MMA history.
Ferguson, the former UFC interim lightweight champion, was stripped of the title after he was forced to withdraw from UFC 223 in April due to a freak knee injury he suffered on a TV set while promoting his main event fight against Nurmagomedov. “El Cucuy” had surgery shortly thereafter to repair his torn LCL and was recently medically cleared to resume fighting.
Ferguson (23-3) has won his last 10 fights. His most recent victory came against Kevin Lee in October 2017.
Pettis (21-7) is coming off a submission win over Michael Chiesa at UFC 226 in July. The former lightweight champion is 3-4 since losing the belt in 2015.
