Laura Kenny narrowly missed out on another medal at the European Championships in Glasgow as Great Britain finished fourth in the women’s madison.

Kenny, 26, was beaten by Russia’s Gulnaz Badykova in a tight sprint-finish as she and teammate Katie Archibald finished six points behind the Netherlands in the race standings.

Russia finished second overall to win silver while the gold was won the Danish pair of Amalie Dideriksen and Julie Leth.

Having already won gold in the team pursuit and elimination events, Kenny was aiming for her third gold medal of the week and the 13th European title of her career.

Kenny, who is Team GB’s most successful female Olympian with four gold medals, only returned to competitive action earlier this year after giving birth to her first child last August.

Earlier Team GB’s Matt Walls won gold in the men’s elimination race, beating Portugal’s Rui Oliveira in the final sprint.
