Deliberate throw denies club batsman century

Cricket

Do you remember when Virender Sehwag and Evin Lewis were denied centuries by no-balls?

A similar situation arose in a controversial finish to a match in the Somerset Cricket League as Minehead took on Purnell Cricket Club.

Batsman Jay Darrell was on 98 – within touching distance of a maiden century – when the opposition bowler deliberately threw the ball to the boundary.

It created uproar on social media with Minehead saying it was “not nice to see” and though the Purnell captain offered apologies, Minehead added “some things just can’t be undone”

Purnell, through their Twitter account, said that the incident would be dealt with internally. “The individual will be dealt with inline with the clubs [sic] constitution and disciplinary procedure.”
