Jose Torres will meet Alex Perez in a flyweight fight at UFC 227 on Aug. 4 in Los Angeles, multiple sources confirmed to ESPN on Wednesday.
Torres (8-0) is a former Titan FC flyweight and bantamweight champion who made his UFC debut last month in Utica, New York, when he defeated Jarred Brooks by second-round knockout. The result was one of the more bizarre finishes in UFC history. Brooks picked Torres up and attempted to throw him to the ground, but in doing so he also slammed his own head on the mat and knocked himself out.
Perez (20-4) earned a contract with the UFC after a first-round TKO against Kevin Gray in August 2017. He then won his first two UFC fights by submission and decision, respectively.
UFC 227 is headlined by a bantamweight title fight rematch between TJ Dillashaw and Cody Garbrandt. ESPN’s No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter, Demetrious Johnson, also takes on Henry Cejudo for the flyweight belt. The event will take place at Staples Center.
