Australia won the toss and decided to bat against England
Live scorecard and ball-by-ball details

Craig Overton makes his ODI debut for England in the fourth match of the Royal London series in Durham.

Overton was presented with his cap by Sir Ian Botham – one Somerset allrounder bestowing the honour on another – moments before the toss at a sold-out Chester le Street. Botham, on crutches following a hip injury caused by a fall when fishing, is the chairman of Durham.

He will be straight in action, too. Australia captain, Tim Paine, has won the toss and chosen to bat first; perhaps not a surprise after his decision to bowl first in Nottingham backfired dramatically.

There are three changes in the Australia side. Nathan Lyon comes in to the side in place of the dropped Andrew Tye – who conceded 100 in nine overs in Nottingham – while Alex Carey comes in for the injured Glenn Maxwell (who has a right shoulder injury) and Michael Neser plays instead of D’Arcy Short as Australia seek more bowling options.

Twenty-four year old Overton replaces Liam Plunkett in the England side. Plunkett has taken more wickets – seven – than any other seamer in the series, but England are keen to manage the workload of a man who has become a key performer in their limited-overs teams.

With England having taken an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match series, there may have been a temptation to rest more players. But injuries to Jake Ball (lower back) and Tom Curran (side strain) have limited their options so Mark Wood plays on his home ground. Curran has returned to London to start his rehabilitation. England currently expect him to be fit for the T20 tri-series.

There was better news for England supporters in the appearance of Ben Stokes training with the England squad before play. Despite missing the second Test against Pakistan and the whole of this ODI series due to a hamstring injury, Stokes was able to bowl a few deliveries on the edge of the square ahead of play.

England have never whitewashed Australia in a five-match ODI series, though they did win 4-0 in 2012 with one game lost to rain.

England 1 Jason Roy, 2 Jonny Bairstow, 3 Alex Hales, 4 Joe Root, 5 Eoin Morgan (capt), 6 Jos Buttler (wk), 7 Moeen Ali, 8 David Willey, 9 Craig Overton, 10 Adil Rashid, 11 Mark Wood

Australia 1 Aaron Finch, 2 Travis Head, 3 Shaun Marsh, 4 Marcus Stoinis, 5 Alex Carey, 6 Tim Paine (capt & wk), 7 Ashton Agar, 8 Michael Neser, 9 Jhye Richardson, 10 Nathan Lyon, 11 Billy Stanlake.
