Toulon adamant Ashton will remain

Chris Ashton has requested a contract extension at Toulon amid rumours that he could be on his way back to England.

Ashton has been under speculation after reports emerged that he had requested to leave Toulon in a bid to boost his hopes of making the 2019 World Cup for England.

However, the Top 14 club released a statement responding to the rumours and stated the player wants to stay beyond his current deal with has two years left.

“Following rumours circulating on some media, Toulon confirms that winger Chris Ashton is still under contract with the club for two seasons,” the club said in a statement.

“To date, no request for termination of contract has been made by Chris Ashton. On the contrary, the English winger has asked for an extension of his contract.

“The club is studying this possibility. Any other information disseminated in the media may be considered completely unfounded.”

Ashton joined Toulon from Saracens in 2017, and made 25 appearances for the French club. The 31-year-old has also made 39 appearances for England previously, his last coming back in 2014.
