Tottenham bounce back from defeat with comfortable win at Cardiff

Tottenham recovered from their shock home defeat to Wolves with a resounding 3-0 win at Cardiff.

Goals from Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Christian Eriksen inside the first 27 minutes sealed the points in a match where Spurs were largely untroubled.

They climb above Manchester City into second place but having played a game more, while Cardiff miss the chance to rise to 14th.

Kane had previously scored against all but one of the Premier League sides he has played against, with his only blank being drawn against Cardiff. However, he ticked them off his list this time with a scruffy goal after three minutes, blocking Sean Morrison’s clearance and the ball trickled past Neil Etheridge.

Cardiff responded well to falling behind at first, with Toby Alderweireld and Danny Rose having to make last-ditch clearances for Spurs.

However, Mauricio Pochettino’s side sensed the danger and sought to double their lead, and did just that after 12 minutes. Kane’s exquisite through ball found Moussa Sissoko and pulled it back for Son, who picked out Eriksen in space and rolled the ball into the corner of the net.

Tottenham were in ruthless form and scored their third goal from three shots when Son’s low effort found the corner of the Cardiff net with less than half an hour on the clock.

Spurs were untroubled for the rest of the first half and Hugo Lloris was finally called into action just after half-time when Junior Hoilett rose above Kieran Trippier to win a header, but the France captain was equal to the effort.

Kane nearly doubled his tally for the day at the other end, but Sol Bamba got a vital block on his goal-bound strike, before Son’s shot on the counter-attack was saved by Etheridge.

Cardiff nearly pulled one back after 72 minutes when Morrison’s header came off Aron Gunnarsson’s back, but the ball rolled into Lloris’ arms.

The hosts were unable to salvage a consolation, as Spurs saw off the win with ease.
